When I sit at my sacred corner
The place where I consciously think thoughts
I see many things from a distance
My mind gives me images of our people in adversity
I see women and young girls in a desperate quest for a safe drinking water
I see the struggles of the poor farmer
I see people living in huts and slums
I see our brothers and sisters suffering in Magrib, Tunisia, Algeria and Libya
Others die in the Sahara
Many drown in the Mediterranean
Sea
And the majority frown in our countries
Then I weep and weep deep
Sometimes tears stain on my cheeks
Sometimes I weep in the inside
For a continent with great potential is in a continuous state of leap
But I wipe my tears with optimism
With a sense of determination and a desire to work hard
With a strong belief that a victim mentality is never a solution in any difficult situation
I rather see the need for the commencement of a revolution
For it is the ultimate solution to our destitution and denigration
I see the need to fight against this plight
To fight it with all our might
To fight for the light that will bring our collective delight
To fight for the light that will light up the houses of our people in the long and dark hours of the night
So that we would live in dignity for eternity
I see the need for a strong self-belief
To never underestimate our potential to achieve
I see the need to think about the collective good
I see the need for us to think big
To dream big
To want to be knowledgeable
To want to be influencial
To want to be visionary leaders
To want to have fortune
But all geared towards changing our people's lives and livelihoods
I hope to see a great health care system
That'll be established by our medical students
So that overseas treatment would be a thing of the past
I hope to see great financial institutions
Established by Africans
And would serve the interests of Africans
I hope to see great scholars
Who would better equip our education system
I hope to see a monumental advancement in technology
That will be pioneered by Africans
I hope that our infrastructures will be built by Africans
I hope to see a revolution in our agricultural sector
That we would grow what we eat
And eat what we grow
I hope that we would unite
I hope that we'll stand up
And tighten our belts and fight
I hope that we'll stop complaining and strive to change our own situation
I hope we'll keep moving forward
For no matter what happens
We must keep moving
Long live Africa!
