A Two-day Winter Adventure Trip was organised by The Gambian Students in The Kingdom of Morocco

The Gambian Students in the Kingdom of Morocco have embarked on a two-day winter adventure trip on the 19th and 20th March 2022 to the amazing cities of Chefchaouen and Tanger. This trip was planned and executed by the GASAM Executive (also called Dynamic GASAM) together with the tremendous assistance of the General members.

During the trip, the members had a travel guide to the city of Chefchaouen, nicknamed the blue pearl of Morocco where they collectively agreed that the city is famed for being the most beautiful city in Morocco and that’s the reason why it always draws in travellers from around the world to catch a glimpse. As they journeyed through the amazing city, they spent part of their first moments chilling in a local restaurant where they had breakfast and refreshments and then continued browsing through the markets. They didn’t worry too much about seeing any particular sights; instead, they just wandered freely through the town and hiked up to the mountains and took in the beauty that the blue city of Morocco had introduced them to. According to history, Chefchaouen was founded in 1471 in the Rif mountains by Jews and Moors fleeing Spain. We have heard a lot of different (some quite unbelievable) theories about why Chefchaouen is blue. Some say it was painted blue by the Jews who settled there after fleeing Hitler, others say it’s to keep the mosquitos away, while some just said it represents the colour of the sea. By the way, it's so uncertain which version is true, but it seems to have worked out well for Chefchaouen, as it sure looks good blue! Still, on the trip, The team members decided to pass through one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Morocco which is the Akchour waterfalls in the Rif mountains. They had so much fun hiking up to the mountain, taking random pictures and enjoying the breeze that the nature of the place presented them with. The journey ended in Tanger, where the team spent a night in an apartment hotel before heading to visit some historical sites. This part was the most educational part of the trip as the team were guided by an extraordinary historian who undoubtedly knows a lot more details about the history of Tanger and the Kasbah Museum. He shared so many insights and wisdom with team members. The journey was accompanied by lots of entertainment and amusement and everyone was very impressed with the organisation and the way things folded out to be. "It was a great experience!", some of them said. This feedback is so precious to the Association. The executive is glad that they all reached their respective destinations safely after the trip on Sunday. We thank the organisers and anyone who contributed towards the success of the trip, especially those who pulled out their resources and valuable time to attend it. The maturity and collaboration they've exercised throughout the journey were outstanding.
