“Kah lee Efanna”;Self-belief| Part 1

Updated: Mar 20, 2022

Certain Dreams can be quite interesting and hard to believe because of the people around us who tend to doubt our powers and potentials. For my own part, I found it quite fascinating when I was a very young boy growing up in my hometown. Those days, It almost seemed quite impossible for me to move from one level of my studies to another simply because of the time required. Imagine, the academic journey from elementary school all the way to higher school is about twelve years of studies. That’s to say, twelve years of total dedication and commitment. This is why the dream of reaching that level required a lot of patience and endurance. Along the way, I have come across friends who dropped out of school because they had no confidence that formal education could get them what they really want in life. While some of them left for other skilled jobs that they claimed would help them make quicker money, “rabba rabba" as we called it, others traveled outside of the country in search of greener pastures.

To speak the truth, a lot of them were practically impatient to follow the long academic journey and even upon completion of their 15 years of studies, there were still no guarantee as to whether they will be able to get the right job they want. This, and many other reasons, made them to give up. The duration of what you dream of becoming might take a lot of time before realisation but trust me! If you are patient enough to see it happen, then you will really know, it worth the waiting. A dream is just a nightmare if you don't believe in its possiblity; its realization isn't possible if you don’t believe in it. The C.E.O of African Youth Architects (AYA), Ms. Fatoumata Dino Hydra, once told me on a telephone conversation. She said “ Salifu, nobody has to believe in your dream more than yourself." From that day, I said to myself that no matter how impossible your dream might seem to someone out there, you need to at least be able to convince yourself that it can really be achieved.
